My favorite places to shop online for clothing and collectibles

july 20, 2014 | Clothing

Back in the day, when you needed a hammer you went to the hardware store. When you needed eggs you went to the grocery store. When you needed a new pair of jeans you went to clothing stores. Then came supermarkets and hypermarkets. You could find everything you could possibly need under one roof, which was more convenient than going to multiple shops. Today, you can get anything you need from clothes to the latest Optimum Internet from the comfort of your home. Welcome to the world of online shopping, where all you need is an internet connection and a device to connect it to. I am addicted to online shopping so much that my mailman is probably sick of my face. I’m also singlehandedly keeping UPS and FedEx afloat with the business I send their way. In this blog, I will discuss some of my favorite places to shop for clothing and collectibles online.

  • EBay

Founded by Pierre Omidyar and Jeff Skoll in 1995, EBay initially started out as a platform to facilitate sales. It soon became the go-to destination to find and bid on rare collectible comic books, action figures and antiques. In 1998 it rebranded itself and emerged as a platform to buy and sell upscale market items. Today, EBay has sales in excess of $240 million/day and is the 9th largest company in terms of sales. For collectibles, its still pretty much on the beaten path. For clothing and accessories, its fast becoming a favored option for online shoppers

  • Amazon

Jeff Bezos’ Amazon is perhaps the most definitive success story to emerge from the dotcom bubble. Founded in 1994 as an online bookstore, it now ranks number 1 in terms of revenue and market share. In terms of total sales, it is second only to Jack Ma’s AliBaba group. Amazon geared itself for ecommerce by creating a strong supply chain network and a quick delivery system. These two areas have made it a popular choice for most online shoppers. The best thing about Amazon is its vast representation of major and independent clothing brands. With every brand you can name present on Amazon, its hard not to acknowledge it as one of the most popular places to shop online for clothes

  • Ruby Lane

Ruby Lane is an online shopping destination that has been on the scene since 1998. It specializes in fine arts, antiques, collectibles and jewelry. They have some of the tightest and most stringent requirements for their sellers, maintaining a high standard of serviceability. Additionally they have very strict restrictions on what can and cannot be put up for sale. Ruby Lane specializes in high-value items and tends to attract affluent and high-income buyers. For genuine collectible items, Ruby Lane is your safest bet.

  • Craigslist

Craigslist is a classified advertisements website that has been around since its founding by Craig Newmark in 1995. Since then, it has been a favorite for people looking to buy or sell anything from furniture to family heirlooms. It is geo-targeted, meaning local buyers and sellers can arrange the sale in person and decide the drop-off/pick-up details. Products are free to list, which makes it a darling of most sellers. The only downside to Craigslist it cuts out the middleman. So, in the event of a dispute, you have to resolve it on your own.

  • Bonanza

Bonanza is one of the easiest and convenient places to find rare collectibles and antiques. It is also one of the most affordable options. Bonanza is growing rapidly, with its easily customizable shop spaces. Listing is one hundred percent free and the average fee charged per sale is as low as only 3.5 percent. Unlike eBay, its not an auction site. Items on Bonanza are at a fixed price, thereby eliminating the bidding process. You only pay the price you see.

  • Boohoo

Founded in 2006, in the time since its creation Boohoo has become one of the leading online fashion retailers. Focusing on trend-led fashion, it targets 16 to 35 year olds on a budget. It features some of the latest women’s fashion items at some of the most affordable prices you will find online. With hundreds of new styles added every day, its one of the best places to get dresses, heels, coats, onesies and more. Boohoo follows fast fashion, meaning it adapts quickly to changing fashion trends and keeps its releases up-to-date

The websites featured in this blog are some of the most well-reputed and trustworthy online marketplaces today. I combined my Frontier Internet Packages and shopping addiction to find the best clothing and collectibles at the best prices. You can use the places mentioned in this blog, or like me, you can do your own research. Maybe you will find some hidden gems off the beaten path.
